We are a SCENT AWARE and NUT AWARE school
Our Classrooms teach children to name emotions and develop strategies to cope with big emotions. We teach that all feelings are valid. We also use Shanker's research on self-regulation to inform our practice.
Self Regulation happens throughout the day in almost every circumstance. Educators use teachable moments to help children learn to regulate their feelings and emotions and to develop strategies to help them stay in a calm, alert and ready to learn state.
One of the most common strategies we use to help children learn to self regulate and return to a calm, alert and ready to learn state is breathing. Elmo and Rosita have some great videos to help us learn how to do this.
