Please ensure that your child arrives on time. If your child arrives late, please enter through the main doors by the parking lot and sign in at the office.
If your child will be late or absent, please call the school to notify us.
Pick up at the end of the day is at the Kindergarten doors. Please stay clear of the doors to help dismissal run smoothly.
Welcome to all of our new Kindergarten families for 2021/2022! We are looking forward to meeting our newest Cardinals and want to make your transition to school as smooth as possible. Some of you may already have children attending our school, but for those of you who don’t, you can look forward to becoming a part of a wonderful school family. Our educators and support staff are very caring adults who will help your child/ren learn and grow, each and every day. As I have learned myself this year, Codrington PS is a very welcoming environment where there are many friends to be made and exciting experiences to have!
We would have loved for you to attend our yearly, ‘Welcome to Kindergarten’ event, but because of our current circumstances we had to think of an alternative way to share this important information. We hope this resource will serve as a way for you to get to know the staff who will be working with your children and a place where you can find some important information about next year.
Each kindergarten classroom is led by a Teacher and a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) who work together as a team to deliver the Full-day Kindergarten Program. In addition to this dynamic duo, students are supported by our Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) and Educational Assistants (EAs), our Teacher-Librarian and a Planning-Time Teacher. Students may often find myself, the Principal, spending time in the kindergarten rooms as well.
Here are a few reminders that will help your student meet with continued success, now and throughout their school career:
· Our school day begins at 9:00 am and finishes at 3:20 pm. There is no adult supervision on the school yard before 8:45 am, so please do NOT drop your child off prior to that time. It is important to set a precedent of being on time and ready to learn at this very early age.
· Kindergarten students enter and leave through the outside doors connected to their classrooms. Educators will meet their students at these doors when the bell rings. If you arrive late and the door is closed, you will need to go to the office to sign your child in. Please do NOT bang on the door to get someone to answer as this is disruptive to the learning of the other students who have started their day. At dismissal time, please wait at a safe distance away from these doors in order to allow the educators to see all parents/guardians picking up their children.
· There will be ups and downs and bumps in the road. Try to remember there are always two sides to a story and it is best to call and ask for clarification before jumping to conclusions. Children are resilient and temporary struggles help them to learn and grow from mistakes.
· Your child’s Teacher and DECE are your partners in your child’s education. It is important to work together, communicate often and ask questions when you are unsure. They are your key source of information and the adult perspective you will need on a regular basis. Please don’t hesitate to call them as you need.
These are precious moments with your children. Be sure to enjoy this time as it passes by very quickly.
