Within the School of Engineering, and throughout Jenkins High School, our teachers are certified, highly qualified, and committed to excellence inside the classroom and out. Whether pursuing higher degrees or participating in summer programs designed to keep them fresh, engaged, and up to date on the research, our teachers have the education, experience, and dedication to life-long learning to bring quality lessons to the classroom every year.
Teachers are encouraged to participate in the Georgia STEM Conference and/or Virtual Summit as well as content specific workshops and events.
In addition, our Business Education Advisory Council (BEAC) members work closely with our teachers and students to expand current and expanding knowledge of the workforce. Teachers are encouraged to participate in job shadows and summer externships with business partners to stay current on needs outside the classroom.
In order to facilitate collaboration and program improvement, a School of Engineering Leadership Team was developed. There are two teachers from each Skills grade level that lead the teams. These teachers are charged with facilitating collaborative meetings and guiding the work throughout the year. The smaller collaboration sessions/meetings allow all subject areas to be represented throughout the projects.
Additional fine tuning through this process is needed to create a better process. In addition, we are working towards having at least two of the four grade level teachers on planning together each semester to expand these collaboration opportunities.
Further, we initiated SOE work days allowing the entire teacher team to leave the classroom and collaborate together, not only in their grade level team, but as a whole program to build the continued depth of knowledge. Business partners are invited to collaborate with the teacher team as well.
