Graphics I

Introduces graphic design as seen in posters, advertisements, logos, illustrations, signs, and package or product designs. Covers selected graphic design elements, vocabulary, and the media, tools, equipment, techniques, processes, and styles used for graphics. Investigates the historical development of graphic design and its function in contemporary society. Stresses using the computer as a major design tool. Explores career opportunities.
All required readings will be handed out by the teacher. There is no required textbook.
A $47.00 lab fee will be due from each student which will cover the cost of ink and paper for prints. Checks must be payable to Savannah Arts Academy. Leave the date blank. *THIS IS TBD
Assessment: class work, homework, critique 40%
Formal Assessment: performance, projects 60%
Attendance will be taken daily. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for missed work. Three days will be granted for make-up work with an excused absence or the student will receive a zero for the assignment.
All work turned in late will lose a letter grade each day it is late. After 5 days, late work will not be accepted.
Starting Grade prior to evaluation:
100 - On time
90 - 1 Day Late
80 - 2 Days Late
70 - 3 Days Late
60 - 4 Days Late
50 - 5 Days Late
0 - 6 Days Late
Tutorial is available on a rolling basis, students just need to let me know what day they would like to stay after. I do not stay after on Fridays. Sign up is required for a tutorial to make up a zero or to complete work. Please inquire in advance to make an appointment via email or remind.com
