Scarsdale Schools are committed to returning our students to in-person school as soon as it is able to do so safely. However, public school districts must follow the health and safety mandates dictated by the Governor's Executive Orders, the New York State Education Department, and New York State Department of Health. While the guidance from the State has not yet been released, Scarsdale is engaging in a process of scenario planning based on current CDC Guidance, NYS Restart guidance for businesses, and practices employed in countries where schools have reopened.
The Restart Planning Committee considered four possible scenarios for the opening of school:
Live instruction for all students:
Opening with no groupings more than a single class (Normal opening, no large group activities)
Hybrid instruction with some students in school and others participating in eLearning:
Opening with no more than 50% occupancy of classes (Social-distancing paradigm)
Opening with no more than 10 students grouped together (Extreme social distancing)
Schools closed and students participating in eLearning
Primarily eLearning with very limited contact with students (Special Education services, etc.)
All students will return to school each day.
Schools will be allowed to open with social distancing requirements. Groups will be limited to no larger than a class.
Ensure that student and staff groupings are as static as possible by having the same group of children stay with the same staff (all day for young children, and as much as possible for older children).
Restrict mixing between groups.
We must encourage to the extent possible social distancing in the regular flow of the school day.
Schools will be allowed to open with only 50% student capacity. Groups will be limited to no larger than half the normal class size.

50% capacity would also be mandated on busing.

Schools will not be allowed to open (or very minimally for special services) or have to close due to virus spikes.
Teachers would largely need to teach from home (similar to this year).
This plan is for closures of more than a day or two.
