Second Grade Sub Plans

Students can watch and follow the musical tracing activity below.

2. Sing/Play "Way Up High in the Apple Tree"

First, perform.

First time: sing and do body percussion
Second time: JUST do the body percussion (sing in your head)
Third Time: sing and do body percussion again.

Then, play the Game

Have everyone turn into trees with a partner.
Then, make some trees "apples" so that you have enough apples to fit in each tree. (e.g. if there are 6 trees, there should be six students who are apples)
Play 6 rounds: each apple gets a chance to be an apple twice. After two turns, they trade with ONE tree person (they know how to do this).

3. Back to School This or That.

Go through the slides presentation.
Students must pick which "this" or "that" they prefer. Students who choose "This should go to the left of the room, while those who choose "that" go to the right.
Once they choose, go to the next slide and they should practice the rhythm on the board with the people on their side
Share out taking turns
Go through all of the different this or that slides.

4. Read, "Speak Up, Molly Lou Melon"

This book is located on the white bookshelf.

We do not have a class chant for this book yet. At the end, students can compare how this book was same or different from "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon."
