The library strives to be a place where students can build and explore connections between the world outside of school and the academic content they are studying in their classes. The collection should reflect the school’s curriculum, as well as the personal experiences, identities, interests, needs, and abilities of the student body. Works from a wide range of diverse authors and creators will be shared to foster empathy and a global outlook. The library values intellectual freedom and critical thinking, and will include opposing and controversial viewpoints in the collection. Information in all materials must be accurate, up to date, and in compliance with copyright law.
The physical library will be open from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM on school days. The virtual collection will be accessible at all times through the library’s website.
The school librarian will work with public libraries to ensure that all students have access to digital library cards. The school will rely on online databases and other electronic resources provided by the public library, but will provide access through its own landing page. Here, the resources most useful to the school community will be highlighted, and the school librarian will develop and share tutorials and other supports for learners.
