TEAM POLICIES
Before the Season
1. If you are serious about coming out for the team, understand that it will require a significant commitment of your time and energy. Continued success in this sport does not come easily, so be prepared to work hard. The track & field program at SBHS has a long tradition of success, and you now have the responsibility and privilege of continuing that tradition.
2. Start getting in shape today! If you want to be ready for the first week of practice, put in the work now.
3. Athletes MUST be cleared by the physical deadline or you will not be on the team! You cannot practice without a physical and the expectation is that if you are serious about potentially competing for the SBHS Winter Track & Field team, then the first step is paperwork. PHYSICALS ARE DUE!!!! THERE IS A NEW SCHOOL DOCTOR AND ATHLETIC OFFICE IS NOW ENFORCING THIS DEADLINE!
First Week of Practice
4. Practice/Tryouts begin Monday November 25th at 2:50. Check the locker room door for meeting location. You must use the team locker rooms, not the PE class locker rooms.
5. During the first week you will be tested in various sport-specific areas to determine your athletic strengths. These tests will help determine whether you make the team. Keep in mind, however, that making the team does not guarantee when or how often you will get to compete.
General Practice Information
6. Practice begins at 2:50 (in the annex gym unless otherwise noted). You will have your equipment that you need for practice with you at the beginning of practice. Dress appropriately for bad weather. Lateness to practice will not be tolerated. If involved in an after-school activity (including detention), get changed for practice before the activity, and then you are expected at practice with a note from the teacher of the activity. Get to practice as soon as possible!
7. Athletes MUST be at practice each and every day. You have committed yourself to a team and the expectation is that you are there every day. You will be allowed 3 absences for the season. If an athlete has a 4th absence, this can lead directly to being removing from the team. Athletes are to email their request to miss practice with stated reason. However, keep in mind that your attendance at practice will determine your eligibility to compete in meets.
8. Saturdays should be reserved for either practice or meets. We also have practices and meets over winter break. Whenever possible, all other activities (including doctor appointments) should be planned around your practice and meet schedule.
9. Injuries should be reported immediately to the coaches and trainers. You must still report for the team warm-up, therapy, timing teammates, etc. You are still part of the team and are expected to be at practice!
Miscellaneous
10. All team members must travel to and from all meets on the school bus, unless permission is given by the head coach. Only your parents can pick you up from a meet, and they must see a coach before you leave. There will be certain meets where all team members must return on the bus.
11. You are responsible for all uniforms issued, and will be held financially responsible for lost or damaged uniforms. You must wear a school - issued uniform to all meets.
12. Always be a positive example of the South Brunswick Track & Field program. This includes acting in a respectful manner at all away events, and following all safety rules when running off campus on local roads.
13. If you need to reach me (Coach Ruskie) please email me at Christopher.ruskie@sbschools.org. Check your own email, and the team website regularly (https://sites.google.com/sbschools.org/south-brunswick-boys-track)
