Kelly Yang's virtual visit Spring 2023

Indian Fields students LOVE Kelly Yang's Front Desk series and were among the first to read her newest book, Finally SeenKelly encouraged students to share their voices and stories during an hour-long virtual visit.

(pictured) A delightful team of 5th graders, assisted by our PTO event coordinator, Mrs. Monday, decorated the library entrance in a life-size diorama!

In 2019, Kevin O'Malley shared visual stories based on traditional fairy tales ... that he updated and turned on their heads! Indian Fields students laughed along and were surely inspired to create their own stories and illustrations!

Did you know that Kevin O'Malley won a Fieldsecott Medal in 2011 for illustrating The Birthday Pet!

Kathleen DiMario, author of What Kind of Dog Am I?,   visited students at the Dayton building in June 2018.

Newbery Medal author Veera Hiranandini visited Indian Fields  May 24, 2018

For the record, we predicted she would win for The Night Diary.

See below for pictures from our day together.

Learn more about Veera from her web site:   www.veerahiranandani.com

Veera's favorite authors growing up are still popular among today's students:  Raold Dahl, Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary.

Veera shared her background research on the 1947 partition of Indian -- the setting for her new novel, The Night Diary.

A real foodie, Veera connected with readers, and students, by sharing sensory details like food descriptions.
