All About the Library

Students in grades K, 1, 2 & 3 select and borrow books as part of their weekly library special.  The weekly return of library books helps build student routines, responsibility and respect.  It also gives them regular opportunities to select fresh reading materials and motivation to practice their emerging skills.

Students in grades 4 & 5 choose two personal reading books as part of their weekly library time.  Additional books may be borrowed  to support class assignments.  Students check out books for a 2-week lending period and may renew once.   eBooks through MackinVia do not count toward this limit.

Students who miss library class or forget their books may exchange books any school day during open library hours.

Lost & Damaged Books

We all have accidents and misplace things!  Students who lose or damage a library book should contact their librarian -- we promise to be gentle and kind. Together, we will problem solve how best to handle each individual situation.

Missing library books have a funny way of turning up in the strangest places -- the public library, the classroom library and under furniture are just a few examples. While, as a general rule we ask that parents pay to replace books that are lost or damaged, payments are not accepted until June of each school year.

Library Bags for Kindergarten & First Grade

To protect library books in transit between home and school, we provide each kindergarten and first grade student with a special bag for library books. Please reuse the bag each week. If the bag is lost or damaged, please label a clean, dry grocery bag from home for your child to use.

Students in all grades receive instruction on how to care for library books and our wonderful library space.
