About the Library
We all have accidents and misplace things! Students who lose or damage a library book should contact their librarian -- we promise to be gentle and kind. Together, we will problem solve how best to handle each individual situation.
Missing library books have a funny way of turning up in the strangest places -- the public library, the classroom library and under furniture are just a few examples. While, as a general rule we ask that parents pay to replace books that are lost or damaged, payments are not accepted until June of each school year.
To protect library books in transit between home and school, we provide each kindergarten and first grade student with a special bag for library books. Please reuse the bag each week. If the bag is lost or damaged, please label a clean, dry grocery bag from home for your child to use.
We read with dry, clean hands.
We turn pages from top to bottom, using our right hand on the outer corner of the page.
We carry books safely by the spine, and return books to shelves spine out.
We use shelf markers to take books off shelves. We return books to the correct spot on shelves.
We return books on time so we may choose new ones, and so others may have a turn with them.
We find a safe place at home for our books, away from water, food, babies, and pets.
School librarians have the best jobs in the world -- we get to share books and reading with our wonderful students! Our mission is to encourage our school community's love of reading and support the quest for knowledge throughout the school day and beyond:
1. The libraries maintain a rich collection of both print and non-print resources to support classroom learning and meet the information and personal reading needs of our diverse students and school community;
2. The curriculum and library program are implemented smoothly and consistently; and
3. A strong foundation in library skills and research is built for all students.
