As an elementary school counselor, we are the first form of counseling your children will ever receive! It is their first access to mental health services at the elementary level. I teach life skills and coping skills to deal with the emotions that they are learning that they have and the skills they need to utilize throughout the rest of their lives.
School counseling is also preventative, the only form of preventative counseling because we get access to your children daily and teach them these skills at a very young age in hopes of preventing “bad” or "negative” behaviors in the future. My goal is to come in and all students about conflict resolution, keeping their body safe, anxiety, growth mindset, and life skills such as how to build relationships, respect, cooperation, being a good citizen, the list goes on! I work with each individual teacher to teach these skills on a monthly basis, through group counseling or individual counseling in hopes and that it will prevent them from making bad choices in life.
