Module Four

Just Say No to Cyberbullying!

Introduction

Welcome to Module 4!

Last week we discussed our unique digital footprints and how your digital footprint can be searched: copied and passed on; seen by a large, invisible audience, and can be persistent. This week we will explore what the term cyberbullying means, how it feels to be cyberbullied, how cyberbullying is similar to or different to in-person bullying. We will learn some basic strategies for handling and avoiding cyberbullying situations.

Objectives

  • Given access to the Internet and course materials, students will determine various cyberbullying situations.
  • Given access to course videos and materials, students will describe and define cyberbullying.
  • Given access to the Internet, students will research various cyberbullying situations.
  • Given access to course discussion, students will list cyberbullying solutions.
  • Given access to Kidblog.com, students will create a blog persuading the public against cyberbullying by offering research, information, and solutions.
  • Given the portfolio procedures tutorial, students will post a link of their blog in their individual digital portfolio.

Assignment 1. Discussion Forum

Answers the discussion questions in the Cyberbullying Discussion Forum on Google Classroom. Add a definition of the term cyberbullying in your own words to the beginning of your post.

Discussion Questions

  • Write a definition of cyberbullying in your own words.
  • What are some solutions if you find yourself in a cyberbullying situation? (List as least two)
  • Reply to at least two classmate's posts. What did you post that was similar and what was different? Remember to be respectful and courteous with your replies.

All discussions will be graded using the Discussion Rubric.

Assignment 2. Creating a Blog

For this module, we will be creating a blog using Kid blog and post the link to our blog on our Digital Citizenship Portfolio Page. Your blog will discuss the following topic in 3-5 paragraphs.

  • Create a blog persuading the public against cyberbullying by offering research, information, and solutions.

Step 1. View the following Kid Blog Tutorial to post to your Kid Blog page.

Step 2. View the Kid Blog Rubric to understand how you are graded.

Step 3. Create your Kid Blog by logging in to our class blog page using the directions provided in your e-mail. If you did not receive an e-mail, please inform me immediately. Be sure to click on publish at the right hand side of the screen when your blog is complete.

Step 4. Post the link to your blog on your Digital Citizenship Portfolio Page.

Step 5. Post the link to your blog post into the Cyberbullying Blog Discussion. Respond to at least two classmates' blogs at their blog site comment area. Comment under your classmate's post in Moodle to inform them that you posted a comment to their blog.

Step 6: Message the instructor when all tasks are completed. Click on my name in the participants' list. Click message and type. Click send message.
