"When mental health and related community supports are truly integrated within the framework of PBIS, a broader continuum of prevention and intervention strategies across tiers can result in improved outcomes for more youth and families", (Barrett et al, 2013).
The SBCUSD Board of Trustees established a joint resolution on 04/04/2017 which defined Health, Wellness, and Safety. Furthermore, it stated "NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the SAN BERNARDINO CITY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT strongly supports a collective impact approach to improving conditions of HEALTH, WELLNESS, AND SAFETY within our region through alignment of policy, shared education, and collaborative actions."
To facilitate a collective impact approach, the Wellness Advisory Committee was established. The committee has transformed and grown in the last 3 years; however, the primary purpose continues to be improving the wellness of all students within SBCUSD with community partner supports and shared work.
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
