Introduction to Acting & Stage Performance

This class is an exciting introduction to the world of acting, performance, and storytelling. Whether you’ve been performing your whole life or are stepping on stage for the first time, Theater 1 is a supportive space where you will build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills.

You do not need any previous theater experience to be successful in this class — just a willingness to participate and try new things!

What Is Theater 1?

Theater 1 is a beginning-level course where students explore:

• Acting fundamentals (voice, movement, facial expression)

• Script reading and analysis

• Improvisation and creative storytelling

• Projection and stage presence

• Ensemble building and teamwork

• Basic stage terminology and production elements

Students will perform in front of classmates in low-pressure, supportive settings. Performances may include monologues, short scenes, group performances, and improvisation activities.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of Theater 1, students will be able to:

• Use their voice and body to create believable characters

• Demonstrate stage directions and basic theater vocabulary

What Is Expected in This Class?

Theater is an active class. Participation is essential.

1. Active Participation

• Be willing to get on your feet.

• Engage in warm-ups, games, and rehearsals.

This is not a sit-and-watch class — learning happens by doing!

• Support your classmates.

• No laughing at others’ performances.

• Practice positive and constructive feedback.

• Maintain a safe, inclusive environment.

3. Preparedness

• Bring required materials (notebook, script, pencil).

• Memorize lines by assigned deadlines.

• Stay focused during rehearsal time.

4. Professionalism

• Follow stage etiquette.

• Use appropriate language.

Grading Overview

Grades are typically based on:

• Participation & daily engagement

• Performances (scenes, monologues, projects)
