Expert Talk: Professional Accounting Pathways

Venue : Kalacherry Hall, St Berchmans College, Changanasserry

The primary objective of the programme was to introduce students to the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Professional Qualification Pathway and to clarify their career prospects and academic roadmap through the partnership with ISDC.

The session was led by Mr. Sharath Venugopal, Regional Head of Institutional Partnerships at ISDC Kerala. As a subject matter expert, he provided valuable insights into the global scope and structure of the ACCA programme. A total of 69 students who are interested in joining the ACCA programme attended the session. The session successfully addressed student concerns. Mr. Venugopal cleared doubts related to exemptions, registration procedures, study strategies, and future career opportunities. The orientation was a success, resulting in high student interest and a clear understanding of the ACCA journey. The interactive nature of the talk ensured that prospective students are well-informed and motivated to enroll in the programme.

Financial Education Workshop

Partner : National Council for Financial Education

Target Audience: Second Year BCom Students

The primary objective of the workshop was to equip students with essential basic financial skills, promoting financial literacy and capability among young learners to help them make informed personal and professional financial decisions.

Mr. Sreejit K Anirudhan NCFE Trainer and Managing Director of Signox Evaluations Pvt Ltd., delivered an insightful session covering the fundamentals of financial literacy, including budgeting, saving, investment basics, and responsible money management. The session saw active participation from 63 Second Year BCom students, who are at a crucial stage of their academic journey to develop practical financial acumen.

The workshop was well-received by the attendees. Students gained valuable practical knowledge on managing their finances effectively. The interactive approach of the resource person helped demystify complex financial concepts, leaving the participants more confident about handling their personal finances in the future.

BCom Induction Programme

Date : July 10, 2026

Venue : Kalacherry Hall, St Berchmans College, Changanasserry

The induction programme for the new batch of BCom & students was successfully held on July 10, 2026, at the Kalacherry Hall. The session was conducted by renowned motivational trainer Anish Mohan (Hug International).

The programme was well-received, with a total of 88 students from both the BCom and MCom Batch participating. The session, scheduled from 09:30 AM to 03:00 PM, provided an essential orientation for the newly joined cohort. The induction successfully laid a strong foundation for the batch's academic excellence and holistic development throughout their postgraduate studies The event concluded with a positive outlook, aiming to foster academic excellence and a strong sense of community among the new students.

MCom Induction Programme

Date : July 9, 2026

Venue : Kalacherry Hall, St Berchmans College, Changanasserry

The Induction Programme for the new batch of MCom (Aided & Self-Financing) students was successfully held on July 9, 2026, at the Kalacherry Hall. The session was conducted by Nijo M Joseph, Assistant Professor (Management Studies), Amal Jyothi College of Engineering (Autonomous).

The programme was well-received, with a total of 38 students from both the Aided and Self-Financing streams participating. The session, scheduled from 09:30 AM to 03:00 PM, provided an essential orientation for the new postgraduate cohort. The induction successfully laid a strong foundation for the batch's academic excellence and holistic development throughout their postgraduate studies The event concluded with a positive outlook, aiming to foster academic excellence and a strong sense of community among the new students.

Expert Talk: Fuelling Your Body for Health, Fitness & Success

SDG Focus : Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-Being

As part of its SDG Monthly Action Programme, the department hosted an expert talk titled "Fueling Your Body for Health, Fitness & Success" on 30 June 2026. Held at Cardinal Padiyara Hall, the session for BCom and MCom students was led by Dr Ajay Alex Varughese, a Consultant Orthopaedics, Sports Injuries & Joint Replacements Specialist from Mandiram Hospital, Kottayam.

Inauguration of Body Mass Index Calculator

A significant highlight of the programme was the inauguration of a Body Mass Index Calculator, a practical tool designed to help students monitor their health status. The BMI Calculator enables users to assess whether they fall within a healthy weight range, are underweight, or overweight/obese, thereby helping them set personal health targets . This initiative aligns with SDG 3 . The tool empowers students to take proactive charge of their health, reinforcing the session's core message about personal responsibility for well-being.

Causerie - All Kerala Intercollegiate Commerce Fest-2026

The Department of Commerce proudly ourganised the 20th edition of its flagship All Kerala Intercollegiate Fest – Causerie 2026. Marking two decades of fostering talent, creativity, and healthy competition, this year’s fest witnessed an overwhelming response from across the state.

With over 550 enthusiastic participants representing 45 prestigious colleges from all corners of Kerala, the campus buzzed with energy, passion, and vibrant camaraderie. The event, held on 29th January 2026, was a true celebration of youthful spirit and managerial excellence.

Eunoia - National Paper Presentation Competition-2026

Eunoia- is a flagship event organised by the Research and Post Graduate Department of Commerce, aimed at showcasing cutting-edge research and innovative ideas in the realm of Commerce, Economics, and Management. This prestigious competition has evolved into a vibrant platform where young minds across India from various institutions converge to share their insights, ideas and innovations and push the boundaries of knowledge.

More than just a competition, Eunoia is a unique confluence of ideas, intellect, and innovation, where undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with research scholars, gather to demonstrate their passion for research. It started its journey in the year 2016. Over the years, Eunoia has successfully provided a stage for talented individuals to voice their perspectives, challenge conventional wisdom, and contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of Commerce and Management.

Folio: Unfolding ideas page by page

Curated by the Department of Commerce, this programme serves as a dynamic platform where students move beyond textbooks to engage directly with the minds that shape the global business and cultural landscape. The success of Folio is measured by the calibre of the personalities who have graced our campus.

The first edition of the event was held in the year 2023 with the presence of Sri Muttiah Muralidaran, the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer, and followed by Mr Joy Alukkas, the renowned businessman and founder of the Joyalukkas Group, in 2024. We believe that true education extends beyond the curriculum. Through Folio, students can broaden their perspectives and equip themselves with exceptional wisdom from real life.

My Story:Alumni Talk Series

"My Story" is a new initiative launched in 2025 by the Department of Commerce to bridge the gap between our past and present.

Success is rarely a straight line. It is a collection of experiences, failures, learnings, and triumphs. Through the "My Story" series, we invite distinguished alumni back to campus to share their authentic journeys—not just their professional titles, but the real, human stories behind them.

The inaugural talk of the "My Story" series featured Mr Alex Tom Joseph, a distinguished alumnus from the BCom batch of 2012-15.

Mr Alex Tom is a qualified CMA (Cost & Management Accountant) and the visionary founder of Invisor Consultancy. He returned to his alma mater not just to talk about his professional success, but to share the narrative of his path—the challenges of starting a consultancy, the discipline required to clear the CMA exams, and the lessons learned since graduating.

Golden Jubilee Memorial Endowment Lecture

The Golden Jubilee Memorial Annual Endowment Lecture is an idea conceived by Dr. Stephen Mathews (former principal of SB College and HoD of the Commerce Department). He himself contributed to the corpus fund for this novel initiative. The very objective of this programme is to offer an opportunity for the students in the college to listen to, nationally and internationally renowned speakers and to facilitate them to keep abreast of the developments in commerce, management and the business field.

Let Us Dream (Desire, Readiness, Empowerment, Action and Mastery for Success).

DREAMS (Desire, Readiness, Empowerment, Action and Mastery for Success) is a three-year-long after-school intergenerational mentoring programme designed and developed by Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas CMI to help underserved middle school students (adolescents) with the help of college student mentors (young adults) and senior adult mentors from the local community. This five-stage model for the psycho-social and leadership development of an individual is grounded in scientific theories. Desire and Readiness stages are based on goal setting/motivational theories, empowerment, Action and Mastery are based on self-determination theory. This evidence-based College student and senior community mentors are identified for mentoring, modeling, and motivating the adolescent participants of the program.
