GOLDEN SCOOP- Mrs. Hanafin

Mrs. Hanafin, who worked as a teacher for 31 years, spent all of those years teaching here at Snyder Elementary. Mrs. Hanafin taught Kindergarten for 1 year, taught 3rd grade for 4 years, and has taught in 2nd grade for the rest of her teaching career. 

“Two things I will miss the most about teaching are the children, but also the relationships with my other coworkers,” Mrs. Hanafin said.

Although she commented that she will not miss having to wake up super early to get up for work, Mrs. Hanafin still plans to substitute throughout the school from time to time. She is looking forward to still being in the school and being a substitute because she still wants to be connected to the school she loves so much. 

“Two of my favorite Sayre memories are when Second grade goes on trips and also the Polar Pop because I like to see teachers get soaked,” said Mrs. Hanafin.

GOLDEN SCOOP- Mr. Stropko

Mr. Stropko taught for more than 31 years. 30.5 of those years he taught at Sayre Area School District. Mr. Stropko taught Learning Support at every single grade level which includes summer programs and after school programs. 

“I will miss the energy and the smiles of the kids. I’ll also miss all the people that I work with,” said Mr. Stropko.

Mr. Stropko hopes to continue teaching kids that need help after he retires. Mr. Stropko has many memories working at Sayre, but his favorite memories are scaring Mrs. Rancourt by hiding under her desk and sneaking up on Mrs. Canfield. Anyone who knows Mr. Stropko knows he is a kind a funny teacher and will be missed a lot.

GOLDEN SCOOP- Mrs. Skerpon

Mrs. Skerpon receives a Golden Scoop as she retires from teaching for over 30 years. She has been teaching at Sayre Area School District for 14 years.  

"I will miss all of the staff and children," said Mrs. Skerpon.

Mrs. Skerpon is currently teaching in first grade, but has taught all the elementary grades, except sencond grade throughout the years. 


“I’ve always loved working with children and I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in their lives," said Mrs. Skerpon.

Mrs. Skerpon is looking forward to having more time to spend with family and activities that she enjoys after retirement.

Ms. Anthony has been such an amazing help to all of the students this year! She has been working and helping students at Sayre Area School District for two years now. This year, Ms. Anthony worked as a paraprofessional in first grade. 

“My favorite thing about working here has been getting to know the children,” said Ms. Anthony.

Ms. Anthony is difficult to miss around Snyder Elementary with her big smile that many look forward to each day.


May Scoop of Mr. Jimmy

     Mr. Jimmy was chosen for the May staff of the month. Mr. Jimmy has been a school crossing guard and a member of Sayre Area School District Custodian/Maintenance team. Currently, you may see Mr. Jimmy throughout the halls at Snyder Elementary. 

"I like what I do very much. I like working with the students," said Mr. Jimmy.

Mr. Jimmy is also a Volunteer Firefighter in his spare time. He joined a fire company in 1985 and is still an active member today. 

"I like helping and working with the community," said Mr. Jimmy.
