Swimming starts at the beginning of fall and ends at the end of March. Currently 3 Snyder students swim with other students from Epiphany, Waverly, and Athens Schools. Students representing Snyder Elementary are Ardrenna Music, Maci Wells, and Attilio Agnelino.
Maci started swimming at the end of 3rd grade. One trick she can do that took a lot of practice is a flip turn. She can also dive from a starting block and she is working on diving off of a diving board. Maci won a ribbon for getting 1st place in her back stroke at a meet.
“My favorite parts of swimming are all the friends I made and all the teamwork we built,” said Maci Wells.
Students have swim practice Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Over the past few years, Adrenna has received ribbons from swim meets for 100 yard breaststroke, the 50 yard breaststroke, the 50 yard butterfly, and the 50 yard freestyle.
“We worked really hard at practices and our coach helped us learn to go faster, and encouraged us,” said Ardrenna Musick.
Some of our high school students Olivia Thompson, Austin Quatrini, and Dominick Musick recently represented Sayre by swimming at the local Districts competition.

This year at Sayre, many students have been competing in recreational cheerleading, a program in which students travel to compete in cheer competitions. Haylee Smith, a 6th grade student, noted that she joined rec cheer because she “loves cheerleading, and wanted to learn more about it.”
She also heard about the program and thought it could be more fun than football cheer, which she already enjoys. Haylee’s favorite part of recreation cheer is “going to practice and learning new skills. Cheer helps me get my mind off other things like school.”
Haylee Smith also noted that their last competition, “went amazing, and we finally beat Southern Columbia after 8 years!” Sixth grader Abby Snyder mentioned that at their cheerleading competitions, they “warm up with stunts and tumbling.”
She says that when she walks out on the mat, “all my worries and nerves go away.”
Abby’s favorite thing about her cheerleading coach is, “she is very funny and supportive. She doesn’t care if we win, she says as long as we try our best, she doesn’t care what place we get.
