Every year Sayre High School puts on a performance in the form of a play or musical. This year, They included students from the Elementary school to join them. This was also a good way to get students involved and interested as the sixth-graders transition to the high school next year.
The following students from Snyder Elementary all participated in the musical this year; Ashlyn Johnson, Abigail Lutz, Clyde Bleiler, Emmalynne Benson, Emma Gillette, Siesha Kishore, Madelyn Roberts, and Alexzander Rounsville. Every one of these students said the musical was a fun and exciting experience for them.
The musical performed at Sayre Area High School this year was ‘The Music Man’ which is based on the main character, Harold Hill who traveled to River City, Iowa trying to start a boys’ band. Some of the songs they sang that may sound familiar to you included Iowa Stubborn, Seventy-six Trombones, Marian the Librarian, the Wells Fargo Wagon, and Shipoopi.
“I hope to see everyone again next year,” said sixth-grader Ashlyn Johnson.

The annual Snyder Talent Show was back again this year with some great performances of talents. There were 11 acts this year in the 2023-2023 Talent Show. All grades assembled to watch the much-anticipated show.
“I liked watching all the people perform because all the talents were very unique,” said sixth-grader Abigail Snyder.
The show opened up with Cameron Abbey who performed a mix of acro and lyrical dance followed by Liam Morningstar, Caleb Conden, Carson Beeman, and Alexzander Rounsville acting out a comedy for the crowd. The third performer was Adrenna Musick showing off her amazing violin-playing talents and the fourth performer, Kaelyn Johnson sang a musical number leaving the audience clapping and singing along.
“I enjoyed performing. Not a lot of people know that I played violin and not a lot of people play it,” said Adrenna Musick.
After Kaelyn’s singing talent, Aubrey Jones did a martial arts demonstration followed by Damien Teeter singing a country hit. Damien had the crowd in the palm of his hand with his talent as the next act Ada Mosier, Alyssa Mosier, and Katelyn Rounsville shocked the crowd with Ada sawing her sister in half magic trick. Next up Kaylee Kmetz and Arianna Walmsley blew the audience away with their partner-style dance and Grier Romberger made an appearance next with his magic.
“I enjoyed getting second place, but performing up there is fun either way,” said Kaylee Kmetz.
The last two performances were both by teachers at Snyder Elementary. The first was Mrs. Swartley and Miss Paris performing a majorette baton performance. The last act was a group of teachers doing a silly dance. All the performers did an amazing job and were so brave to show off their talent. Ada Moser took first place with her magician performance, second place went to Kaylee Kmetz and Arianna Walmsley, and third place went to Adrenna Musick with her violin performance.

This year, Sayre put together a Battle of the Books team both for Sayre High school and Snyder Elementary. Teams set off for Towanda this spring. Both teams had been reading a list of books all year to prepare for answering questions about these books during the competition. Mrs. Lezak started the team at our school.
“I created the group because I used to do it in Towanda and saw how much fun it was for kids. It got students reading, so I brought it to Sayre. I wanted to give students the opportunity to be part of a team and read books,” said Mrs. Lezak.
This competition sparked a lot of interest in reading throughout the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Mrs. Leonard helped out with the high school team. She noted that the competition went well, but she hopes both teams do even better next year when more resources are available and the teams have gone once before. Fourth-grader Macy Wells, from Mrs. Waite’s class was captain of the Battle of the Books team.
“My favorite part of the competition was definitely when we were going against other teams- it was just a really cool thing to do,” said Macy.
Macy decided to participate in Battle of the Books because her dad’s school did it last year and she got to see how the competition works and thought that it would be something she’d enjoy participating in too. Mrs. Murelle, from 4th grade, led the 4th-6th grade team in the competition.
“I liked the result of Battle of the Books and the competition as a whole, but I hope to do even better and improve for next year,” said fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Murrelle.
Battle of the Books proved to be a really educational experience that inspired and motivated kids to read very many great books in a creative way.
