SELF-IMAGE

Self-image means how we see ourselves. Many people pretend to be something which they are not, because they want to be accepted by others. As humans, we are afraid that others will not accept us for who and what we are. Pretending takes up a lot of energy and we could rather use this energy to build good relationships with people who accept us for the way we are.

People with a negative self-image often behave in strange ways. They might criticise others, make fun of themselves, try to be clever in conversations or always try to do things perfectly. They use whatever means they can to try and be accepted, in order to find a way of belonging.

Every person at one time or another feels that they are not good enough, for example, that their marks are not high enough, their bodies not perfect enough, or that they are not part of the popular 'in' crowd. It is important to focus on your good qualities and not just see aspects of yourself you deem unworthy.

Complete the self-esteem/self image worksheets below. Remember, the more effort you put it, the more marks you will receive.
