CHROMEBOOK Frequently Asked Questions
Students are expected to take ownership of their school-issued Chromebooks. If a Chromebook breaks, do not take it to an outside source to be repaired. Contact the main office at your student's school so the Chromebook can be repaired or replaced.
Families may be charged the fair market value of any Chromebooks or parts that are damaged, or for Chromebooks or parts that are lost.
First incident in a school year: An invoice will be issued for payment at the full expense of the guardian. A replacement device will be issued.
Second incident in a school year: A second incident will be recorded and an invoice will be issued for payment to the guardian.
Third incident in a school year: Subsequent incidents of damage will be handled exactly as a second incident, and additional disciplinary action may be levied at the discretion of the school administration. Any malicious or intentional damage witnessed by school personnel will automatically be treated as a second incident and follow the steps outlined, and be subject to disciplinary action at the discretion of the school administration. In the case of theft, evidence must be presented to substantiate the claim in the form of official school or law enforcement documentation.
Per the student device agreement, you may be charged the fair market value of any devices or parts that are damaged, or for devices or parts that are lost. You must report damage, loss or theft of the property to the school by the next school day after the occurrence.
SAUSD Technology Support Services will not charge families for the labor costs associated with repair. Due to the fact that models and age of devices vary, the cost schedule below is an average of these costs and can fluctuate over time due to price changes.

No. Please return your student’s Chromebook to their school. Your student will be issued a Chromebook at their new school. This process helps schools keep an accurate inventory of their devices. Make sure the Chromebook is checked back in.
