In our work in the classrooms at BES, it is sometimes necessary to bring in tools for children to use to increase their learning. Some of those tools are shown below. There are tools that are used class-wide such as the Drive Thru Menus and classroom yoga and tools that are specific to certain children such as Disc Sit cushions, ball chairs, Bouncy Bands, chair leg bands and pencil grips. Many of these items are used for students to increase their attention in class by helping them focus for longer periods of time or by activating their core muscles to improved sitting posture for longer table top activities.
Various pencil grips may be used
Bouncy Bands help students move while sitting
Balls can be used for a fidget tool
Slantboards may be used to provide a better position for writing
Another example of a hand fidget tool
Elastic is used in the same manner as Bouncy Bands but also allows the student to move their chair to a different area to work
Yoga balls can be used for alternate seating
Disc Sits can be used to allow wiggling in the chair while doing table top activities
