October 2026 News

October has arrived and the kindergartners are busy with lots of autumn activities! We will be observing the changes in weather, temperature, and in the leaves. We will also have a lot of fun learning about pumpkins and doing Halloween activities. Here are some more highlights of what’s to come in October:

In language arts we will be learning the letters Pp, Ff, Ii, Nn, Oo, Dd, and nasalized a (as in the word fan or man).  We will introduce the sight words and, a, is, as, said, practice blending and segmenting words, and introducing the children to the terms noun (naming word), author and illustrator.

For math this month, we will continue in module 1, working with numbers 6-10 in different configurations (linear, scattered, circular), comparing and matching, forming these numbers correctly, composing and decomposing, and practicing one more/less.  

Science will bring us classification by color, shape, and size, traits of autumn, and learning the life cycles of pumpkins. 

Lastly, this month’s social studies topics include fire safety and prevention, Columbus Day, and Halloween activities. 

The children are working hard and are really settling into our routines. Please continue to reinforce letter and number skills at home, and don’t forget to read daily to/with your child. Please feel free to contact me  any time!
