May/June 2026 News
It is hard to believe that we are down to the last 30 days of school. This year has flown by and all of the children have grown as learners and friends. I am so proud of all of our students and I look forward to wrapping up the school year and truly seeing how much each child has developed through the year.
In the months of May and June in language arts, we will continue to work on writing with the children. They are currently writing and illustrating their own stories. Everyone is making nice progress in our guided reading groups and we are working on fluency and expression as we read. Our irregular heart words for May and June are: who, my, by, one, and once. Please continue to have your child work on these words at home- they are “popping” up in books and in their journals each day. We will continue to review the digraphs sh, ch, th, wh and ph and we will work on long vowel sounds and soft /c/ and /g/. I will continue to do poetry and interactive charts each week, and, of course, continue to sing daily!
In math for May and June we will be working on module 5, where students will count two separate parts within teen numbers 10 ones and some ones. They will start by counting 10 items to understand 10 ones. They will begin saying numbers the Say Ten way. The students will begin to decompose teen numbers with Hide Zero Cards and number bonds. They will also
begin to draw circles to represent teen numbers. We will then explore beyond the teen numbers up to 100, both the regular way (ten, twenty, thirty, etc.) and the Say Ten way (ten, 2 ten, 3 ten, etc.) They will realize the number sequence 0-9 is repeated as they count to 100.
In science, we will be learning about plants and about the day and night sky.
For social studies we will be learning about maps, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day and in June will also learn about Father’s Day.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call, email, or stop in anytime. Thanks for sharing your wonderful children with us!
