Achieving Mentor Teacher Status is a process rather than an event. It is a formative experience, designed to foster professional development and growth as an educator. A learning mindset is beneficial to faculty who undertake the process, as it follows the precepts of heutagogy. Being open, reflective, and curious about their craft empower faculty, and create a dynamic professional development experience. The feedback loop is at the center of the work, and self-reflection is a critical component. Because the process is a multifaceted one, with numerous moving parts, you can expect it to take more than one entire school year, from initial submission to finish.
A detailed timeline for anyone applying for Mentor Teacher, with descriptions of each step, is located in this document. Applicants should keep this document in a safe place, and reference it throughout the process.
