The 3rd Grade

Art Room

As students progress to the 3rd grade, they move out of the exploration of art and begin to refine their art skills. Art concepts are reinforced and strengthened through activities based on the elements of art and principles of design. Students will learn to express themselves through creating art while developing critical and creative thinking skills.

Develop an awareness of the principles of design (pattern, movement and contrast), and use these principles to create two and three dimensional works of art.

Recognize the different elements of art (color, form, line, shape, texture, tone, and value) and how they are used in relation to a piece of art work.

Develop beginning knowledge of art history and identifies selected works of art.

Learn to constructively critique his/her own artwork and the artwork of their peers.
