The 1st Grade Art Room

The 1st Grade art curriculum is focuses on student exploration with art materials, techniques, and processes. Students will learn the basics of art making while working in a safe and cooperative environment.

· Recognize the terms line, color, texture, and shape and explore these ideas in a variety of art projects.

· Experiment with different media (crayons, paint, clay, etc.)

· Learn to use art tools in a safe and responsible manner.

· Communicate and express ideas about works of art.

· Combine different art media to create a composition.

· Understand the differences between materials, techniques, and processes used in making art.

· Work with clay to create three-dimensional art.

· Identify primary colors and mixes to make secondary colors.

· Communicate and express ideas about works of art.

· Recognize the use of color in art works creates different feeling and expressions.

· Understand the difference between line, shape and color and uses these art elements

· to depict objects, people and places.

· Communicate and interpret their thoughts about their own and others’ artwork.
