Week of May 6th

 Math:

This week we continued working  on composing and decomposing teen numbers.  We are working on looking at teen numbers as tens and ones.  We played some games where we composed teen numbers and practiced our math words, "I have ___ tens and ____ ones.  That makes ____ in all".  We also added in number bonds to this work.

We had fun participating in the different math week activities.  Our favorites were graphing our favorite ice cream and geometry in nature.

Writing:

In writing we completed a class How To writing piece and started thinking of our own ideas for How To pieces.  We know how to do a lot of things!

ELA:

We read nonfiction books and looked at text features.  We found text features in some of our independent reading books.  Our nonfiction reading has been a part of Topic time.

Please continue to work on Sight Words at home.  Regular practice helps build recognition and fluency.  Once your child can read the words, they can begin working on spelling.  We will be testing students on the 50 sight words we learn in Kindergarten.

Social Studies/Science/SEL

We finished up our unit on plants and are learning about ocean animals in anticipation of our upcoming in school field trip.  On Monday we will explore the ocean and marine life for our "field trip."
