Week of Feb. 12th

 Math:

On Monday we counted the 100th day collections we brought in from home.  It was so fun seeing what each child chose to bring in to school!

We are learning about the math symbols for addition and subtraction.  We have been practicing using the "Big Math Words:  __ plus __ equals ___".  We connected this to the part/part/whole model.  This week we also worked on addition strategies: Use tools (we will add to our strategies list)

We did a Valentine's Day Math Mystery on Wednesday. It was so much fun solving the clues with our math partner.  

Writing:

We completed our story and worked on brainstorming ideas for a new Narrative piece. We did some writing in respose to the book we read :Mae Among the Stars

Reading:  

Our poem this week was Monster Love.   We highlighted sight words and did some work work with our poem.  We read a cute story called Slugs in Love for Valentine's Day.  We read a book about astronaut Mae Jemison called Mae Among the Stars.

Word Study and Handwriting:

High Frequency words:  we practiced orthographic mapping our current words. Please practice word identification at home.  We will begin word assessments next week.

We reviewed op/og word families along with short a word families

Handwriting: We practiced diving letters: n, m, and h

Social Studies and Science

This week was the 100th day.  We celebrated with our 100th day STEM challenge.  We worked with a partner to see what we could build with 100 pieces of a specific object  (toothpicks, Legos, color chips, connecting cubes, popsicle sticks, dominoes, cups, pattern blocks, and q-tips).  It was challenging building one thing and using all 100 pieces.  See our photos below.

We enjoyed passing out Valentines on Wednesday.  On Friday we had our monthly town meeting.

Read Across America is next week and we will participate in fun reading activities throughout the week.  Friday will be our Glow Run.  Below are our dress up days:
