Every new title that comes through the proper channels at HBHS is also vetted by the Library and academic support materials are collected. This process takes a little time, but it is important to our school community that the Library offer guidance to readers, instructors and families every step of the reading journey.
The threat of censorship is always a concern in a free and educated society. Should there be any concern, question, or challenge to our carefully vetted materials, there are resources available to support any citizen's right to read and defend their freedom to choose the material most suited to their needs.

A general guideline to any reader on how to properly challenge a book (This is not specific to SAU41, it is just common sense.) :
Every community has different needs, therefore any challenge should come from within the community the materials serve. The challenger should also read the whole book (for informed context) and explain why, how and where in the book the offensive action took place. The case can then be presented to a committee made up of a cross-section of the community where it can be discussed and decided whether the title should be retained as it is, retained with more parameters in place, or removed from the collection. Removal does mean that this title is now censored and should be added to ALA's censorship listing by the librarian.
