The Library Commons is a hub of student activity at HBHS. Team Library is always available to assist students with electronic and print-based information gathering and finding books for assignments or pleasure reading.
HB recognizes the importance of information skills and the Library Commons plays an integral role in helping students develop their capacity to locate, evaluate, and apply information. Classes frequently visit to work on specific projects. Mrs Heaton works in collaboration with teachers to offer instruction and assistance with research and project design. It is the LC's mission to provide quality library services and to develop collections - both tangible and digital - that support our school community's academic standards.
In addition to more than 10,000 books, a DVD library of more than 500 films, 3 newspapers, and dozens of magazines. the LC has many other resources for students, faculty, and staff. We loan small electronics and equipment, including laptops, kindles, nooks, digital drawing tablets, cameras, etc.
The space can accommodate more than 65 students in an inviting environment that is conducive to both individual and collaborative work. There is also a dedicated room for classes to meet and where teachers and the librarian often team up to deliver instruction. A conference room is available to accommodate meetings or small group library programs.
The Destiny Library Catalog is available on and off campus via the LC website, offering access to print and digital media, ephemera and curated online resources. Integration of Follett's Destiny Discover with Google allows students to search our holding as part of a regular Google search.
Additionally, our website provides access to a collection of subscription research databases. The site contains updated content, including book reviews, current events and news, study aids and connections to our social media networks. As always, we welcome your feedback and participation.
Throughout the school year, the library hosts an array of special events. Recent activities have included talks and art displays, a chess tournament, technology training, and study groups. As we plan events, we invite the collaboration of community members in developing new ideas to keep reading and learning at HBHS fresh and engaging.
Our quarterly newsletter is currently undergoing a shift from a rather lengthy PDF to an online magazine format.
