MAP 9 Salinas Trip
Highlights
On their first MAP field trip, MAP 9 students embarked on an immersive journey through Northern Californian history and literature. To complement their current class reading, Of Mice and Men, they visited the Steinbeck House and received an exclusive look into John Steinbeck’s childhood. They also visited a farm in Salinas to learn more about how the industry operates and experience the rigors of the manual labor involved.
MAP 9 students built foundational media skills through two photography projects. In the "People, Places, and Things" assignment, students practiced using the photography techniques they learned in class - such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, use of color to create mood, and shot types - to demonstrate grammatical concepts. Students also employed these photography techniques on their MAP 9 field trip to Salinas, where they had a scavenger hunt assignment to find various landmarks and then displayed their work in a photography slideshow.
MAP 9 will soon begin a unit in which they will learn the key ingredients to making an engaging podcast. They will then collaborate and create their own podcasts, getting a first feel for the extensive, industry-standard media equipment used by MAP students.
