We are going to do three job shadowing in 3 different European countries. During this period we are going to observe and learn the organization, the methodology, good practices... in different schools. Afterwards, we will share all these in our school with our colleges.

estonia

15 ideas about the Estonian Education System

Free public education
Competencies, objectives and fully programmed content.
The clear commitment to robotics, from early childhood education, as a tool for both logical mathematical thinking and language development.
They use the Integrated Learning methodology, giving importance to links from different areas.
They work in small groups of 10 to 12 students to develop language learning.
They promote interaction between students, especially pair work.
Short but very elaborate presentations to work on oral production (up to 2-3 minutes)
The importance of theater to work on speaking.
Gamification: they constantly use learning through games, especially traditional games: Trivial, relays, boardgames ...
To work writing: they use working methods, documents that explain the structure of sentences and texts.
They respect the rhythm of the students, free space of 10 minutes between classes and 20 minutes on the playground.
Mathematics: they pose real problems, about money, about banking ... all the photos in the textbooks are real.

As we all know, Finland is the main European reference in terms of education. They use innovative methodologies and resources.

Apart from the Job shadowing, we have taken part in an intensive course abroad.

the united kingdom

One of our teachers has traveled to the UK in order to taken part in a course about methodology, languages and innovation.

The course was held in Scarborough, at Anglolang English Academy.

15 ideas about the school and the UK Education System:

1. 342 students. From 21 countries. 1/3 foreigners.

2. Families: low-income families with a low socio-economic and cultural level. 94% school attendance.

3. Public school: 90-95% of the students go to public school. Free school supplies (books, etc.) for everyone.

4. Maximum of 30 students per classroom.

5. Compulsory education until 18 years old.

6. Educational system:

Kindergarten (3-5)
Primary education (6-11)
Secondary education (11-16)
Sixth Form College (16-18) to go to university.
General College (16-18) applied training: beauty ...
C U University (14-18) various types of BVT (basic vocational training)

7. Repeating course is very unusual.

8. All immigrant students have to do knowledge tests and there is an EAL (English Additional Language) figure for non-English proficient students.

9. They decided to wear the uniform at school 5 years ago. Uniform is compulsory in all secondary schools. Its use in primary education is not compulsory. Low-income families have the uniform for free.

10. Inclusion team: There is a team dedicated to dealing with issues of behavior, bullying, child protection and mental health. Professionals in this group: one social worker, one consultant and two teachers.

11. Timetable: 8:45 -15:05

13. Lunch: students can bring their meal from home or eat the meal provided by the school. Depending on income, they may have it for free. £2.30 daily menu.

14. Calendar:

School year: from September 2 to July 17.
6 weeks vacation in summer.
6 weeks of work, one holiday week (in general).
3 days a year without students, training days: September 2, January 2 and April 20.
2 days off in the school year.

15. From the age of 8 (Year 3) French is taught as a foreign language. One session a week.
