Sant Bani Guidance & Health Education Program
The comprehensive guidance program is an integral piece of a Sant Bani's Health education program. The goal of the counselor is to support the healthy growth and development of the total child (social, emotional, and academic) in his/ her world of school, home, and community as well as helping create positive and safe learning climate in our school. The counseling program is designed to meet the needs of students, parents, and staff in the school community through the coordination of the following services:
Classroom Guidance/Health Education - The guidance and health ed. curriculum includes lessons on learning skills, personal and body safety, personal wellness, conflict resolution, friendship skills and social connection, and career exploration. This year preK-5 is a push in program where I have the flexibility to not be just scheduled in once a week in these grades. This type of program allows me more freedom to come in during times when a class may need more support or may be engaging in topics that would be an opportunity for some assistance from me.
Parent Consultation - One of the most critical aspects of the caring, collaborative community at Sant Bani is effective communication. Parent consultation with the counselor takes on a valuable role in this community building process. Counselors may visit with parents regarding academic or social issues related to their children. The parent, teachers, administrator or counselor may initiate the consultation.
Teacher Consultation - Consultation with teachers is another important part of our caring, collaborative community at Sant Bani. The counselor has ongoing communication with teachers through collaboration, meetings, e-mail, conferences and written notes to support students learning and growth. Teachers may consult the counselor regarding student concerns, the counselor may approach a teacher related to a student concern or there may be times when a counselor or teacher communicates messages to the other at the wish of the parent so everyone is able to support the student here at school.
