"Dual Enrollment" students (previously known as "Advanced Education students") ARE: High School Students who take one or more college class/es while attending high school at the same time.
Students have the unique opportunity to take a college course and receive college units while also fulfilling high school graduation requirements.
Students may take a Dual Enrollment class from the list provided by Mira Loma OR they may take a course out of the college catalogue. There are hundreds of classes to choose from. See the individual community college "Programs and Majors" & "Schedule of Classes" for available classes.
During the Fall and Spring semester, courses may be taken during the school day as "online" courses OR outside of the school day "online" OR "on the college campus".
Students may choose any of the California Community Colleges. Our local Community Colleges:

TYPE 1 - CCAP DUAL ENROLLMENT
CCAP DUAL ENROLLMENT: Students take a Dual Enrollment Class that is offered in partnership with San Juan Unified & American River College: There is a prescribed list of classes EACH SEMESTER. These courses are "online" courses that are offered "asynchronous" meaning that you can do the course work at any time. These courses are taught by Community College Teachers who are teaching only high school students in the section.
NOTE: If a students takes a CCAP Dual Enrollment course, they are required to have a period in the school day to do their college work. Mira Loma calls this class "ARC Dual Enrollment". The course is currently taught by Ms. Hanson in C8.
Steps to Enroll in a CCAP Dual Enrollment Course:
1.See you counselor to get the list of classes OR fill out the Google Form from the Counseling Office notifying us that you want to take a CCAP Dual Enrollment class: The list comes our in Late September for Spring Classes & Late January for Fall Classes.
Your Counselor will sign you up for the class you choose. You do NOT need to sign yourself up for the class.

2. Read all the directions, then Apply to American River College: https://arc.losrios.edu/admissions/get-started-and-apply/dual-enrollment-admission-and-enrollment-steps
Complete Steps 1, 2, 3 & 4 on the ARC Dual Enrollment Page: Ms. Hanson in room C8 is the CCAP Supervising Teacher.
Note about Step 4 on the Dual Enrollment Page: Complete the Special Admit Form You will submit your Special Admit Form to ARC. Counselors & Parents/Guardians receive an email from the community college that we approve. Ask Ms. Hanson, the CCAP Supervising teacher for help in room C8.
3. Send your counselor or Ms. Hanson your ARC ID Number. The ID number comes to you in an email about 24 hours after you complete the application.
NOTE: If you continue to take courses in future semesters, the process may be a bit different; check your portal for "HOLDS". Fill out forms if required.
TYPE 2 - NON-CCAP DUAL ENROLLMENT
NON-CCAP Dual Enrollment: students take courses that are not on the list of approved CCAP courses OR they do not have space to take the support period in their school day. They can choose courses from any of the Los Rios Colleges (ARC, Sac City, Cosumnes River, and Folsom Lake).
What classes can I take as a NON-CCAP student?
First go to one of the Los Rios Community College Dual Enrollment website (see below for links)
Go to the "Academics" tab at the top of the webpage
Explore all the options in the "Programs & Majors"
Once you have chosen some classes you would like to take, you will need to search the class schedule to see if the class will be offered in the session you want to take it.
Go to the "Academics" tab at the top of the page and click on "Search Class Schedules" to look for classes.
Type in the course title on the line.
Use the filtering system to look for classes at all Community College Campuses
Steps to Enroll in a Non-CCAP Dual Enrollment Course:

Go to the Dual Enrollment Page on the Community College website for the school you want to attend (Links are listed below here)
Read steps and directions very carefully and watch the video tutorials on the community college website.
Follow the directions on the college website very carefully
When you get to the step, "Meet with a High School or Adult School Official", come in at lunch to talk to your counselor.
Special Admit Form CHANGES: See Step 4 on Community College Dual Enrollment page (links below for each college). Students fill out the form on the website; counselors and parents/guardians receive an email from the community college that we approve.
Students fill out the Form, Parents get an email prompting them to fill out a form, counselors get an email prompting them to fill out the form.
Students, Parents and Counselors receive confirmation after filling out the form
Continue to follow the instructions on the college website for Dual Enrollment and check your email every day.
Check your community college portal also to see notes about next steps
You will receive an email letting you know when you can enroll in a class in your portal.
Enroll in your class through your community college eservices
IMPORTANT: Once you have completed the course, you will order a transcript from your Community College Portal. The transcript should be sent to the Mira Loma Registrar.

NOTE: If you want College transfer credit, you must look at the course description for this information. Also make sure you meet the "prerequisites" for the course. This is all noted on the course descriptions.
