Academic Accommodations Policy
San Francisco Film School is committed to providing equal educational access to students with disabilities in compliance with applicable federal and state law, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Students with qualified disabilities are entitled to reasonable academic accommodations, modifications, and auxiliary aids that ensure nondiscriminatory access to the college’s programs, services, and activities. Reasonable academic accommodations are adjustments to instructional methods, course requirements, academic policies, auxiliary aids, or learning environments that enable students with disabilities to participate fully in the educational experience without lowering or substantially altering essential academic standards. Accommodations will be provided unless doing so would fundamentally alter the nature of the program or impose an undue administrative or financial burden.
To be considered for accommodations, students must self-identify and submit a written request to the college’s designated accommodation coordinator along with current, appropriate documentation of the disability from a qualified professional. Documentation must verify the existence of a disability and articulate functional limitations that necessitate accommodations. All requests and supporting documentation are treated confidentially, consistent with applicable privacy laws.
Students are encouraged to request accommodations by completing this form as early as possible, ideally before the start of the term for which accommodation is needed. Accommodations generally are not retroactive and will be implemented from the date of approval forward. Students may contact the Registrar and Director of Compliance for information about procedures, required documentation, and ongoing support.
The college prohibits discrimination or retaliation against any individual for requesting accommodations or asserting rights under disability law. Grievances regarding accommodation decisions may be addressed through the college’s established complaint procedures.
