November is School Library Month!
It's Picture Book Month and to celebrate, the Sandwich CUSD 430 libraries are showcasing a picture book called Negative Cat by Sophie Blackall. Picture books are an enduring art form that appeal to readers of all ages.
Each school celebrated in their own way.
At SHS, we had students and staff send us pictures of their pets and we made a "Pet Wall" outside the library.
More about Negative Cat:
Negative Cat is the story of a little boy who loves cats and asks his parents for a pet cat every day for more than a year. When his parents finally give in and adopt a pet cat from a shelter (with a few conditions, including reading every day), they find that the cat is grumpy, ignores them, and seems negative....about EVERYTHING.
Until one day, the little boy opens a book to practice his reading and finds the cat sitting next to him, listening to him read. The cat becomes friendly and the little boy finds himself going to the animal shelter and reading to all of the animals.
It’s a book about the joy that reading can bring to humans and animals alike.
Halloween-themed Breakout was a success!
READ Club, led by new club member Mei Bernardini, planned and hosted an escape room-style breakout for Halloween. Students were able to sign up for the breakout during Flex.
Though our second day was cancelled, our first run of the breakout was a success! Our team managed to "break out" of the library.
Plans are in place to run the breakout again in April for School Library month so those who didn't get a chance to take part will be able to.
READ Club attends the Jennifer Hayes author visit event at Woodbury
Mrs. Ballas, librarian at Woodbury Elementary, invited READ Club to take part in the author visit on October 24th.
READ members were able to talk to Jennifer Hayes about her books and received signed copies for our HS library!
READ members are currently discussing a possible visit from Jennifer to the high school.
