Top 10 while working from home

The VAPA Staff has brainstormed the following ideas for VAPA teachers to engage in while working at home during the COVID-19 school shut-down. These ideas address our work in service of students. As a priority, we support your staying healthy and using this time to catch up on sleep, exercise (as possible), and time with family.

  1. Check in on the VAPA Virtual website often--see what’s there, it will be updated frequently.

  2. Check in on students’ progress in your class--using your gradebook and any other data, how each student is doing in your class and how can they be supported upon their return?

  3. Seek out professional learning: read journals or articles, visit websites, participate in online workshops, take a course (for credit or not)

  4. Reflect on your teaching--write in a journal, take a walk and think about your classroom, create art in response to your work. You do you.

  5. Practice your art form. Watch videos of superb performances and/or pictures of art work.

  6. Explore a different art form.

  7. Communicate with your students as possible. Send ideas for them to stay engaged in learning their arts discipline on their own.

  8. Connect with colleagues. Catch up with them personally and professionally.

  9. Write a virtual thank you note to someone in your sphere. (teachers/parents/students/administration/support staff)

  10. Continue work started on Teacher Clarity (with some high school teachers).

Bonus: Review the California Arts Education Framework and give public comment.
