    • Description: It’s still unknown what school will look like this fall. Join the VAPA staff and engage in discussion around how teachers can prepare for instruction in the visual and performing arts, given the different possibilities of the structure for student learning in the 2020-2021 school year. How do we anticipate the socio-emotional needs of students? What does Day 1 look like? How do we prepare for the unknown?
  • The Arts in TK-5 Distance Learning (a recorded presentation for elementary classroom teachers) - coming soon!

  • Artistic Process as a Practice for Self-Care. We will explore the concept of self-care, building understanding about how self-preservation and mindfulness can assist us with managing challenges and stress in our lives. We will use art making to reflect on our personal well-being while navigating COVID-19 and facilitating distance learning. Teachers will use a guided drawing and writing activity to identify the current stressors in their life. We will use symbolism and the elements of art to process challenges and manage stress. Maximum 15 participants.
  • Connecting Students to Mindfulness Through the Visual Arts. Classroom teachers will build understanding for incorporating social & emotional practices into classroom culture. They will learn activities to help students achieve mindfulness and self-care using visual art as a starting point and will design their own plan to incorporate their learning into their online classroom interaction with students. Maximum 15 participants.
