Teaching Tolerance lessons
Key aspects of Tier 1 instruction that could be used as strategies:
Ensure all teachers deeply know the grade level standards and the rigor of proficiency levels students need to achieve
Ensure teachers utilize consistent standards based instructional pacing guide
Ensure instructional time is dedicated to standards based teaching at level 3 and 4 of proficiency scales.
Assess student knowledge of the standards frequently using formative and summative IAB assessments
Re-engage/reteach students who did not meet level 3 and 4 proficiency of specific standards immediately or closest to point of instruction.
Ensure daily independent reading-minimum of 30 minutes daily and ensure structures are in place to tightly monitor to ensure every student is meeting expectation and building a love for reading/genre/author/topic.
Ensure students reading below grade level have access to high quality, interesting, motivating and engaging Tier 3 reading instruction.
