Staying physically fit for a sport takes consistency and dedication. How can you stay sports ready for upcoming seasons when practices, games, and sports camps are on hold?
Help build a library of training tips and drills. Try out some favorite drills from SDUSD graduates and Padres pitcher Craig Stammen's favorite drills and / or accept their challenge to create your own video to share with others!
Are you trying to refine your skills, stay fit, or gearing up for team try-outs next year? Staying on top of it all while teams, games, seasons, and camps are on hold can be challenging. Staying physically active is not only good for our physical wellness, but our mental health as well.
Join SDUSD graduates and Padres pitcher Craig Stammen in helping connect SDUSD students with new routines that can help us all stay healthy and active during this time. Together, we’ll build a library of resources that can help us grow stronger during this time. Think about one of your favorite drills or exercises, write a short script to explain the drill, and create and submit video to teach it to other students.
Computer with internet access.
Paper & pen (or digital note taking device) to sketch out your ideas.
Phone or computer that can record video. A chromebook or similar device with a camera will do!
This could take 1 or more hours, depending on how many times you want to revise and re-record your video.
Consider where might be the best place to film. You’ll need to have proper lighting, be able to hear the audio, and take into consideration what viewers need to see in the video in order to complete the task. Test out a few areas with your camera and audio to see what works. Remember, quality video may take a few tries before you capture a final “take”.

Research & Select a Drill You Want to Share
Think of a drill you want to share with others? Unsure what you want to choose?
Think back to practices or camps you have attended. What drills did you enjoy doing? What made a drill fun, engaging, and effective?
Take a minute and review the videos already in the library. Which ones do you like? What makes a good, quality video?
Consider Your Audience & Write a Script
Now that you’ve selected a drill. Write a script of what you are going to say to:
Introduce yourself
Introduce the drill
Guide students through the drill
Close
Don’t forget to think about your audience. Are you making this video for younger students (TK-5), middle school students (grades 6-8), or high school students (grades 9-12)? How might your audience impact the language that you use?
Practice & Record
Set up your camera and do a couple of run-throughs. Check as you go for sound quality, lighting, flow of the script. Make adjustments as you go.
Review & Re-Record
Watch the video. Or, consider having someone else watch your video and follow your instructions to see if what you intended for the viewer to understand and do is what you have communicated. Note down adjustments you’d like to make and re-record. You can go through this process as many times as you’d like.
