In the Design and Production Department, we recognize the power and influence of social media, its role in modern-day communication, and its use as a living portfolio. This social media policy provides guidelines for our students and crew involved in our productions when posting online about our productions, or industry-related topics.
Policy Statement
Respect for Intellectual Property Rights: Any content you post on social media related to our productions must respect intellectual property rights. This includes, but is not limited to, the work of costume designers, set designers, lighting designers, sound designers, props designers, projection designers, and playwrights.
Designers and Director: If you post an image that includes design elements (costumes, sets, lighting, etc.), you must credit all relevant designers in your post, including the director. For example, "Directed by [Name], Costume design by [Name], Set design by [Name]."
Scripts: Do not post any parts of the scripts online without explicit permission from the licensing firm. The scripts are the property of the playwrights, and posting them without permission violates copyright law.
Respect for Personal Privacy: Ensure you have permission from all identifiable individuals in the photo before posting it. Be aware that some individuals may want their image to be private for various reasons.
No Video Content: No video footage from rehearsals, performances, or other company-related activities should be posted online. This applies to both public social media channels and personal channels.
Appropriate Content: Remember to always be respectful and considerate. Posts should be professional. Defamatory, offensive, or negative posts about the productions or anyone involved are strictly prohibited.
Confidential Information: Refrain from sharing any information that isn't publicly available or may compromise our productions' success. This includes but is not limited to, future production plans, casting decisions, and other proprietary information.
Non-Compliance
Failure to adhere to this policy may result in disciplinary action.
Legal action may be taken if intellectual property rights are violated.
Remember, when you post online, you represent yourself and SDSCPA Design and Production. Our team must follow these guidelines to create a respectful and creative online environment.
If you have any questions about this policy or are unsure whether a post would violate these guidelines, please consult with the Production Manager or other design and production faculty before posting. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to making our online presence positive and respectful.
Photography Policy
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for photography during the course of productions, encompassing the building of the show, backstage areas, and during rehearsals. The aim is to ensure respect for all involved and protect the rights, security, and privacy of the production team, cast, and crew.
Building the Show
Photography during the building of the show is allowed and actively encouraged. This can include capturing set construction, costume design, lighting setup, prop arrangements, and other pre-production activities.
Guidelines:
Please be mindful of safety and do not interrupt those working.
Respect other people's space and work.
Do not share photos containing spoilers or sensitive production details without prior approval from the production team.
When sharing these images on social media or elsewhere, please credit all relevant parties and use the designated production hashtags or tags if applicable.
During Tech Rehearsals
Photography during rehearsals is only permitted with the express permission of the Director. Please try to give 24 hours notice of photography.
Guidelines:
Always ask for permission before the start of the rehearsal.
Do not interrupt the rehearsal to take photos.
Respect the actors’ privacy and do not capture sensitive or unflattering moments.
Only share approved photos and always give proper credit.
Backstage (Even before the show)
Photography in the backstage areas is strictly prohibited at all times. This is to ensure safety, privacy and maintain a professional working environment for all involved.
Guidelines:
Do not use cameras or any devices with a camera (including smartphones) in the backstage areas, especially in the dressing rooms.
If you need to use a device with a camera, ensure the camera is deactivated or covered.
Breaching this policy may result in disciplinary action, including removal from production
Non-Compliance
Failure to adhere to this policy may result in disciplinary actions. We trust that everyone will respect these guidelines and contribute positively to the production’s overall success.
