Connecting your identity to the past to link your advocacy to the future
The students will evaluate ways to be an advocate through historical figures and literature to discover the advocacy within themselves by developing a research project based on students of each group selecting a topic relevant to themselves and their community, such as, identity, community, health, economics, racial relations, etc.. Students will create videos on advocacy in the Video Production 3-4 to broadcast on “The Nest”, students will create infographics in Cyber Security to explain how to create a secure network/firewall to allow residents of City Heights to protect themselves in the digital age, and finally, the GIS course will develop ArcGIS Story maps to address the areas of need for advocacy in the community through the lens of health, housing, policing, economics, etc. The culmination of work will be a podcast submitted to the NPR Student Podcast Challenge in March 2022 on a topic of advocacy in the lives that they believe would have impact on others in the nation. The students will be using technology throughout the project to develop the podcast, collect data, and develop ways to express ideas through “The Cardinal” Hoover Newspaper and submitting to the NPR Podcast Challenge.
