Operation LEAAP is a five year grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) to accelerate the rollout and implementation of enhanced math strategies at five elementary schools and one middle school, grades 3-8, with a minimum of 10% military-connected students. The grant provides teacher professional development, in class tutoring and hands-on learning opportunities in and outside the classroom. Schools, with the support of a Mathematics Resource Teacher, will:
Support teachers in using strategies for inquiry and discovery.
Facilitate the use of standards-based curriculum.
Support teachers to enhance student centered strategies.
Engage students in innovative projects that show how math is used in the real word, leveraging physical activity, science, and data analysis.
Embed Computer Science standards in the curriculum to broaden exposure and enhance analytical skills, exploring areas of data science and computational thinking.
Utilize technology to engage students in content, share learning in authentic ways, and allow teachers to check for understanding.
