WELCOME BACK! SDUSD's Newcomer Welcome Centers are spaces where students and families who recently immigrated to the U.S can learn about the district's resources, programs, and opportunities while sharing their unique backgrounds, cultures, and aspirations. We are located at Hoover High, San Diego High, Mira Mesa High, Lincoln High, and Crawford High and are also available to travel to different schools across the district to support families. Our services are specifically designed to assist immigrant and refugee families as they adjust to life in the U.S. We offer a range of support, including:

Essential Supplies: School supplies, hygiene kits, shoes, and bus passes
Educational Guidance: Orientation to U.S. education, academic counseling, ESL classes for parents, and mental health resources
Technology Access: Hotspots for internet connectivity, navigating online platforms for school
Community Connections: Referrals to organizations providing housing, jobs, healthcare, legal advice, and food assistance
Language Support: Translation and interpretation services are available to ensure effective communication

Instructions for Returning Families: Student Registration for Next Year

All families of currently enrolled students should log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and complete the Student Re-Registration for Next Year form for the 2026-27 school year.

What to do

Go to https://powerschool.sandi.net
Log in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal

Select Student Registration for Next Year from the menu
Complete and submit the form by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026

(Please Note: This is not available in the PowerSchool mobile app, but can be completed by visiting https://powerschool.sandi.net from the internet browser on any device – phone, tablet, laptop or computer.)

Who needs to complete it
All parents/guardians of students currently in grades TK-11 should complete the form, even if your child will go to a different school next year.

What you can update

Whether your student will return for 2026-27
Address, phone number, and contact information for returning students
Where your student will attend next year if they will not return to San Diego Unified

Important
If the school or grade listed does not match where your student will attend next year, please still complete the form and notify your school.

Pre-School Enrollment

Was your child born between December 2, 2021, and Dec 1, 2023? If yes, they are eligible for preschool enrollment. Preschool is available for five days a week, three hours per day, either in the morning or in the afternoon.

To register, you will be asked to create an account, input your child's information, and upload documents, including birth certificates, pay stubs, postmarked mail, vaccine records, etc.

Youth Summit 2026

City of San Diego Office of Children and Youth Success is offering a summer opportunity for youth (ages 15-24) in San Diego to build bridges with community and connect with resources while having fun in the park, learning and creating with peers.

Refugee Work Readiness Exchange

This is a self-paced e-learning course to learn eight essential “soft skills” that will help new arrivals be more successful in finding a job and moving up the career ladder! Participants can use this engaging, mobile-friendly course to practice skills like confidence, stress management, cross-cultural communication, and conflict resolution.

Fast facts:

Available in Haitian Creole, English, Arabic, and Dari.
FREE for participants, AND you will receive a $50 gift card and certificate of completion (great resume builder!)
Run time: about 4 hours. You can start, stop, and save your progress as needed

The 2026-2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and the CA Dream Act Application (CADAA) are open! Students in 12th grade (Seniors) can now begin applying for financial aid to help pay for college. If you need help creating an account and submitting an application, contact us at welcome@sandi.net or call us at (619) 366-5770 or (619) 559-5998 to have one of our team members help.

ONLINE ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2026–2027 SCHOOL YEAR OPEN

New Student Enrollment

This platform is for new student enrollments, which includes:

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) registration
Enrollment for new students in neighborhood K-12 schools
Re-enrollment for students who are returning to the district from a different school system (charter, private, homeschool, or out of state, etc.)
Enrollment for new students offered and accepting seats through School Choice
Enrollment for new out-of-district families accepted via School Choice

Do not use this platform if your child is currently enrolled in SDUSD in grades TK–11.

Parents of currently enrolled students will complete re-registration for the 2026–27 school year using ParentPortal. If you don't currently have a ParentPortal account, please click on the link or contact your school for assistance.
