SDUSD's Newcomer Welcome Centers are spaces where students and families who recently immigrated to the U.S can learn about the district's resources, programs, and opportunities while sharing their unique backgrounds, cultures, and aspirations. We are located at Hoover High, San Diego High, Mira Mesa High, Lincoln High, and Crawford High and are also available to travel to different schools across the district to support families. Our services are specifically designed to assist immigrant and refugee families as they adjust to life in the U.S. We offer a range of support, including:
Essential Supplies: School supplies, hygiene kits, shoes, and bus passes
Educational Guidance: Orientation to U.S. education, academic counseling, ESL classes for parents, and mental health resources
Technology Access: Hotspots for internet connectivity, navigating online platforms for school
Community Connections: Referrals to organizations providing housing, jobs, healthcare, legal advice, and food assistance
Language Support: Translation and interpretation services are available to ensure effective communication
