Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education

Generative AI is a branch of computer science that generates new content and can predict future outcomes. It is a rapidly evolving technology that allows machines to learn, adapt, and perform tasks and is already part of our everyday lives. It is not magic, nor does it have human intelligence.  Students will graduate into a world full of AI tools so will need to know how to use them ethically and responsibly.

California's Guidance on AI

Califonia Department of Education (CDE) encourages educators to approach AI with a lens of equity. As educators and students learn about potential inaccuracies, biases, and social impacts of AI, they build capacity to promote ethical use of technology. The department supports educators who adapt their teaching methods to incorporate emerging technologies effectively in line with student needs.

What is SDUSD's doing?

San Diego Unified School District is in the process of creating a task force to develop a well-rounded approach that will meet the needs of all of our stakeholders. Check back periodically to see the district's progress with this endeavor.

What can I do as a Teacher?

We encourage teachers to start exploring this new technology. It is important to gain first-hand experience rather than relying on hearsay. As you begin to explore multiple AI tools, understand that this is a learning process and it is okay to make mistakes and learn from them. Throughout your exploration, begin to think about how AI can be integrated into your work.
