What will students do?
Develop
Students will develop their ideas while developing their practice of work place safety and experience with tools and measuring equipment.
Design
Students will design components and products for their ROV using industry standard Computer Aided Design Software such as Solidworks and others.
Fabricate and Manufacture
Students will execute their designs with a high degree of professionalism to create finished products that may be sold to an end user.
Course Overview:
Describe machines used in the manufacturing industry and identify design and manufacturing careers and their professional organizations.
Identify safe work practices and personal protection equipment(PPE) in a machine shop or manufacturing setting.
Identify and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) terminology and symbols as per industry standards set forth in ASME y14.5.
Interpret engineering documents and/or drawings for manufacturing purposes.
Identify the correct material application for the intended purpose of a product.
Determine the most practical manufacturing process(es) for a product or item.
Correctly operate pre-processing equipment such as band-saw, cut-off saw to prepare workpiece for manufacturing process.
Understand and apply precision layout of a workpiece for machining, forming and/or inspection purposes.
Use precision measuring tools and equipment per industry standards.
Apply appropriate workholding devices for manual and machine operated processes.
Calculate cutting speeds and feed for a variety of materials used in manufacturing of products.
Set-up manual lathe and mill and identify appropriate cutting tools for the workpiece.
Inspect and verify first article to meet engineering drawing specifications.
