Beginning Band
provides instruction in the basic principles of musicianship and familiarity with standard band literature. Students will learn to play a standard band instrument in an ensemble setting, and to read and understand the language of music. Occasionally student performances will take place outside of the school day. Placement in Advanced levels to be determined by Dana music teacher.
Beginning Orchestra
provides instruction in the basic principles of musicianship and familiarity with standard orchestra literature. Students will learn to play a standard orchestra instrument in an ensemble setting and to read and understand the language of music. Occasionally student performances will take place outside of the school day. Placement in Advanced level to be determined by Dana music teacher.
Beginning Guitar
introduces how to play the acoustic guitar properly and how to read standard notation and tablature, chord diagrams, and chord charts. They will learn guitar care, maintenance, composition, and performance techniques. They will examine guitar history and a variety of guitar music. Occasionally student performances will take place outside of the school day. This course is designed for students with little to no experience with the guitar.
Advanced Band builds upon previous instruction in the principles of musicianship and familiarity with standard band literature. Students will develop their instrumental skills in an ensemble setting, reading more advanced concert band literature. Occasionally student performances will take place outside of the school day. Students must have taken Beginning Band previously or audition into this class.
