In May of 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, unprecedented global change and uncertainty, and with only a few weeks left in the school year, Birney Bees were challenged to rethink and create a vision for their ideas, research, teams, and final presentation to a safe and/or virtual format:
create artwork for "Who Am I" or "A Change I want to See in our World?"
communicate a personal passion through video or slides
sing and submit a personal performance to become the 5th grade Performance
and/or take action to change the world
Birney Bees used many skills in the process of creating their products:
research, rethink, and re-envision the traditional face-to-face Primary Years Exhibition
reflect and inquire based on personal interests and passions
demonstrate agency and some were even able to take action
demonstrate self-management and social skills
communicate, and create in person and/or online
take risks, challenge themselves, try something new
and make changes in the community.
Exhibition products range from a couple of slides to a video of a protest at Trolley Barn Park, or from a simple sketch to a complexly edited collaborative performance piece.
