The assignment of this week was about preparing design files and fabricating models using 3D Printing and Laser Cutting.
For 3D printing:
I used https://www.thingiverse.com/ to pick a 3D model, i love the bulldogs so i searched about a design of one on thingiverse.
Here's a link of my inspiration:
For laser cutting:
I used https://3axis.co/dxf-files/ to search about some ideas.
I decided to make a key chain so, i searched about a DXF keychain file.
Here's a link of my inspiration:
For 3D printing:
To create my design I used ultimaker_cura, to get the G_code so i can start printing the design,
then i used the 3D printing Prusa i3 MK2 machine to create the design, and the design was made of PLA .
For laser cutting:
Machine used in laser cutting was the laser cutter
the software i used was the laser works to make the file in the rld format to start cutting it on the machine .
Material: 3mm sheet of wood
For 3D printing:
I downloaded the design file from thingivers in STL form
then i opened the file in the ultimaker_cura application to convert it into a G-code so i can be able to slice it and prepare it for printing.
i changed the scales to save more time and material.
-editing the print sitting by choosing PLA with infill 10% and 0.2 of profile defaults
-i used support and adhesion for my design.
-slicing the design
- taking 48 mins, and 7g of PLA.
-At the end I saved the file as Gcode
For laser cutting :
-First thing i started to import the dxf file to the laser works software , then i started to select the parts that will be cut.
-I started to edit the settings of the file : output, speed 30 and power65 of the laser cutting .
-I dragged the file at the corner of the work area at the origin , to make use of the rest of the sheet and save more of the material.
-last thing is to save the file as .rld
For 3D printing:
at first, from the menu, we should preheat the machine to change the filament and the material we used was PLA until the machine was ready ,then we should upload the G-code in the memory card of the machine, then we choose our design.
For laser cutting :
open the laser cutter
insert the file onto the machine computer(Download from laser works software ) and adjust it then press on start button
Title of Media
i asked my instructor about what will happened if we rotate the design and if this will save more time and material and he suggest not to rotate it as we didn't have to rotate.
i planned to print another 3D printing 'vase' but i had encountered flaws in the design ,the printer make unarranged additive layers so i figured out that there was flaws in the design.
then i decided to print another design.
i can use it to make the parts of my final project as i learnt how to deal with the 3D printing Prusa i3 MK2 machine to slice the design parts.
I learnt also how can i use laser works to define the cutting and engraving parts
learning how to use the 3D printer was the coolest thing.
the party i had planned with my group was super cool especially our superpowers.
